Brisbane 2001 Goodwill Games

In September 2001, Queensland hosted visitors from around the world to the Goodwill Games.

Mike Plant, President of the Goodwill Games Inc commented that the 2001 Goodwill Games was the most successful games to date in terms of operations, ticket sales and overall delivery of quality entertainment and sporting competition.

Brisbane was the first city outside of the United States and Russia to host the Goodwill Games, exceeding expectations of organisers and partners. Over 12 days of competition, Queensland hosted an elite field of competitors across 14 sports, including athletics, basketball, beach volleyball, boxing, cycling (track), diving, figure skating, gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, surf lifesaving, swimming, trampoline, triathlon and weightlifting.
