ICN Games Linkage Program Success - Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games

Australian architects, Jackson Architecture and Peddle Thorp Architects (PTA), have won contracts for the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games, with the assistance of Industry Capability Network (ICN) through the Victorian Government's Games Linkages Program. ICN has been working closely with Austrade and the Australia-India Council to develop opportunities for Australian involvement in the 2010 Commonwealth Games projects.

Singapore Wins Right to Host First Youth Olympics in 2010

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) awarded the first ever Youth Olympics for 2010 to Singapore on 21 February 2008. Singapore beat the only other contender, Moscow, for the Games, which will have around 3,200 athletes, aged 14-18, competing in 26 sports including traditional events such as athletics and swimming and will also feature innovative events such as beach wrestling and BMX bike riding. For the first time Singapore will host a multi-disciplinary sporting event of such magnitude and significance. The country is proposing 24 venues for use, with four being build as temporary facilities. The Youth Olympic Village is set to be located at a new $460 million student residential complex at the University of Singapore. Singapore is budgeting $82 million to the run the event.

Marketing Release Agreement with GAGOC

Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah - President of Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), accompanied by OCA Media Committee Chairman Manuel Silverio, signed a Marketing Release Agreement with Guangzhou 16th Asian Games Organising Committee (GAGOC) Vice President-cum-Secretary General and Mayor of Guangzhou Zhang Guangning on 1 February 2008.

The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) announced today that Make Architects with PTW Architects of Sydney, and Ove Arup and Partners have been appointed to design the Handball Arena.

Opening of the Watercube

The formal ceremony for the opening of the watercube was held inside the venue and marks the completion of this magnificent piece of architecture and engineering.

John Bilmon, PTW Architects Project Director for the Watercube – Beijing’s National Aquatic Centre - was delighted to be in attendance at the formal opening on Monday 28th January 2008, together with our engineering partner, ARUP. PTW together with ARUP, are delighted to join their Chinese partners, CCDI, in participating in this auspicious occasion.

The Watercube has already received international attention and will continue to do so over coming months. This fantastic result has been achieved due to the involvement of various professionals from different locations and disciplines; the outcome of an interactive creative process which has provided a rich experience.

Australian Companies win in Delhi

Australian architects with the assistance of AISES have won contracts for the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games. A consortium of Australian companies triumphed in a competition against the best architects, designers and engineers the world can offer to win the contract for the Delhi 2010 Athletes Village.

Other successes included a consortium of Australian companies being awarded the contract to construct the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games competition venues – the Siri Fort Sports Complex, Yamuna Sports Complex and the Tyagaraj Sports Complex.
